November 5, 2008 Last night, Democratic Nominee, Barack Hussein Obama, won the Presidency of the United States. Elsewhere, there were a variety of elections for the Senate, Congress, and various other offices. Most notably, Congressman Andre Carson succeeded in his re-election bid and continues to serve as one of the two Muslims in the United States Congress.

This event will feature speeches by Congressperson Donna Edwards (4th Congressional District - MD; includingparts of Montgomery and Prince Georges County), Father Ellias Malon, who works with the United Nations at a humanitarian NGO, and Imam Syed Naqvi, Chairman of the Islamic Information Center.

October 29, 2008 The Council of Shia Muslim Scholars in North America will be holding their annual conference in Baltimore, MD on the weekend of October 31st, 2008. This conference will mark the largest ever gathering of Shi'ite scholars in North America, as more than 100 scholars, or 'Ulema', will be in attendance.
