IIC Main Offices
In early 2007, the Islamic Information Center relocated its main headquarters to the National Press Club building in Washington D.C.  The National Press Club is an international news media hub, home to hundreds of media organizations from around the world, and regularly hosts world leaders and various elected officials from around the nation.  By positioning an office in this location, the Islamic Information Center is uniquely suited to disseminate important Islamic information throughout the world in a professional and instantaneous manner.

(WASHINGTON DC - March 20, 2009) The Islamic Information Center condemns the actions of the "Kingdom of Bahrain" in its unequal treatment of it's majority Shi'a population.

Bahrain has a long history of oppression and human rights violations. In this report, even conservative news network FOX News charges that government allegations against detained Shias are fabricated.

According to the US Embassy Human Rights Report on Bahrain, there is widespread disenfranchisement of Bahrain's citizens:

"Citizens did not have the right to change their government. The government restricted civil liberties, including freedoms of press, speech, assembly, association, and some religious practices. Domestic violence against women and children persisted, as did discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, nationality, and sect, especially against the Shia majority population. Trafficking in persons and restrictions on the rights of expatriate workers remained problems."

The report further goes to state that the Bahraini government adversely regulates Shi'ite Mosques, and severely limits the Islamic ceremonies of Muharram in honor of Imam Husain.

Bahrain's government has also been known to attack peaceful protestors to suppress freedom, even going as far to fire "rubber bullets" over a fishing dispute.

The oppression has been long term, and has no end in site unless direction action is taking by members of the American Muslim community.

The Islamic Information Center calls for community members to CALL the Bahraini Embassy, (202) 342-1111 extension 825 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it them and strongly demand the equal and justified treatment of it's Shi'ite population.
