ISLAMIC INFORMATION CENTER INFORMATION ALERT IIC Condemns Reverend Parsley's Remarks Against Islam IIC Main Offices In early 2007, the Islamic Information Center relocated its main headquarters to the National Press Club building in Washington D.C.  The National Press Club is an international news media hub, home to hundreds of media organizations from around the world, and regularly hosts world leaders and various elected officials from around the nation.  By positioning an office in this location, the Islamic Information Center is uniquely suited to disseminate important Islamic information throughout the world in a professional and instantaneous manner.   (WASHINGTON D.C. - May 9, 2008) Recently the Reverend Rod Parsley, who is a televangelist and pastor of the over 5000 seat World Harvest Church, located in Columbus, Ohio and key McCain ally in Ohio has called for eradicating the "false religion" of Islam. Reverend Parsley sees no distinction between extremists and the the majority of Muslims, who are peaceful and friendly followers of Islam.  Senator McCain has actively been seeking his endorsement and called Parsley "a spiritual guide". The Reverend Rod Parsley has also actively called for Christians to wage war against Muslims. Reverend Parsley has been confronted about his statements and has publicly defended his opinions. The Islamic Information Center strongly condemns and denounces these divisive words and calls for Senator McCain to drop Parsley as an advisor, reject his support and to explain his stance on these issues. Islam is a religion practiced by millions of people in the United States and more than a billion people around the world.  American leaders must be able to distinguish between those who follow the religion in the correct peaceful way, and those who shun the religion and choose the path of extremism. In this day and age it is imperative for people of different faiths to come together. There is a need now more than ever to foster dialogue and condemn those who seek to derail this process. We must not embrace those who seek only violence and division. Our leaders should also show that they embrace tolerance in speech and practice, and having a spiritual guide who is against tolerance sends out the wrong kind of message to millions of Americans.
