| | Friday, January 16, 2009 the Syed Bahar Al Aloom, delivered Friday prayers at the United States Capitol. Muslims are enjoined to perform prayer or "salaat" 5 times each day, however Friday is marked as a special day of prayer and the Friday "Salaat" is accompanied by sermons.
All are invited to attend this special Friday service, either as participants in the prayer, or observers to the prayer.
The sermon will begin at 12:30pm, so please try to arrive by 12:20pm.

The history of the US Capitol Jummah program can be found here.Capitol Hill Jummah takes place in the Capitol Building, in Room HC-5 on the B-Level. The sermon begins at about 12:30pm and prayer usually ends no later than 1:15pm. The service usually attracts about 80 brothers and sisters who work on Congress, in America's leading Muslim Advocacy organizations, Muslims who work in local Federal Department, and local community members. This program often has guest delegations sponsored by the State Department, visiting from various parts of the Muslim world.

Directions to the Friday Prayers/Jummah Salaat
Take the Orange or Blue line to the "Capitol South" metro station. From the Capitol South Metro Station, go towards the Capitol building on Independence Avenue. Proceed to Capitol Building HC-5. Upon arrival in the building tell the outside guard/Police Officer that you will be attending the Muslim Prayer Service. You will then be sent through a metal detector. A clerk will then provide you with a pass and direct you to the room location. If you get lost, please ask any guard or police officer for directions to the HC-5 building. Please arrive in the Prayer room by 12:20pm as the sermon (Khutbah) will begin by 12:30pm.
