The Islamic Information Center (IIC) condemns the attack against the peaceful aide carrying flotilla by Israeli forces that took place this weekend, and calls upon community members to take action. IIC joins the growing consensus of human rights organizations calling for the US government to take immediate action.

On Tuesday May 25, 2010, members of the leadership of the Islamic Information Center had the opportunity to meet with the top ranking Shi’ite scholar in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Hassan al-Saffar (http://www.saffar.org), at IIC's national headquarters in the National Press Club in Washington DC. Sheikh Al-Saffar is the representative of Grand Ayatollah Syed Sistani in Saudi Arabia, and is the author of more than 100 books on Shiaism. Sheikh Al-Saffar is in the country to visit with the 5,000 Saudi Shia students pursuing higher education in the United States.  IIC wishes Sheikh al Saffar well in his efforts to promote education in the burgeoning Shia community.

The renowned and top ranking Shia Scholar of Saudi Arabia, His Eminence Sheikh Hassan Al Saffar, is touring the United States currently. The Sheikh delivered a very enlightened and thought provoking lecture at the Imam Ali Islamic Center in Virginia on Saturday May 22, 2010. A big number of people from different walks of life attended this exclusive event, and the Islamic Information Center was represented by Mr. Mohammad Hussain, member board of Directors of the IIC. Later the Sheikh scheduled a meeting with IIC Chairman Imam Syed Naqvi (also affectionately known as Maulana Naqvi) to discuss the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia.

The Islamic Information Center is proud to announce that an episode of Interfaith Perspectives, hosted by eminent TV and radio personality, Zarinah Shakir is airing in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. This episode is focussed on Shiaism, and attempts to explain the beliefs and practices of the Shia Muslim community. In this episode Ms. Shakir interviews IIC's Executive and Communications Directors, Rahat Husain and Hajar Hosseini, the respected scholar Sheikh Abdul Jaleel, and community leader Brother Salahudeen Kareem.
