WASHINGTON (AFP) - Bowing and mouthing prayers, Saleh Williams prostrates himself on a white sheet beside his colleagues. For these Muslims, Friday worship takes place not in a mosque, but a meeting room in the Capitol -- at the heart of US democracy.

IIC Condemns Attack on Holy Site in Samarra E-mail
February 23, 2006

The Islamic Information Center expresses its grave indignation and condemns, with the strongest possible terms, today's brutal and savage attack on the holy mosque in Samarra, Iraq, which holds the revered shrines of Imam Ali Al-Hadi and Imam Hasan Al-Askari, both being direct Holy progenies of the Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon them).

The IIC is of the view that this barbaric and terrorist attack is another futile attempt to cause a civil war in Iraq. This sacrilegious and cruel attack can never be perpetrated by anyone who is a Muslim or a believer in the Almighty God, or even someone with the slightest moral or human concern; this is because the Holy Prophet and his Holy progeny have been advocates of peace, justice and human values.

This is a matter of great concern to all the peace loving individuals around the world as it is causing insecurity in Iraq and more problems for its broad-based legal government. Moreover, the claim of Coalition Forces to guarantee security of the holy sites is becoming more questionable and ambiguous.

Imam Syed Rafiq Naqvi the Chairman of the IIC calls upon the people of Iraq and the world at large to remain calm and not to be swayed by emotions. However at the same time he expects that everyone should express condemnation of this criminal act and protest by every peaceful and civilized means available.

Updated Status on Ayatollah attacked in Karbala E-mail
June 28, 2006

Last week Ayatollah Syed Mortada Al Qazwini was brutally attacked in the city of Karbala by a group of terrorists. He survived the attack and recently was transported outside of Iraq for additional treatment. We ask individuals of all faiths to pray for his fast recovery. We also strongly urge the United States government to increase security for the revered scholars in Iraq. The high-ranking Shia clerics in Iraq have been one of the main reasons why the country has been able to establish a government, and their safeguard is vital for the safety and prosperity of the Iraqi people.

The individuals that perpetrated this act are targeting the preachers of peace in attempt to create chaos in the country. These great scholars of Islam have worked hard to establish peace and justice in the nation and have put their lives endanger for the betterment of the world. The Islamic Information Center requests that all individuals across the world recognize the efforts of these great Scholars and the work they are doing to make a more peaceful world.

IIC Condemns Cowardly Act of Terrorism Against Indian Civilians E-mail
July 13, 2006

This statement is in response to the series of seven explosions that took place on crowded commuter trains in Mumbai on Tuesday, July 11th. It is estimated that over 185 people died and 700 were wounded in this deadly attack. The Islamic Information Center can do nothing but express its condolences to those affected by this attack and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in this barbaric act of violence.

Islam places inherent value in each human life, as life is seen to be endowed to us by our Creator. Such acts of sporadic, unjustified violence against innocent civilians are unconditionally rejected by Islam and have no basis in authentic Islamic doctrine. It is the hope of the Islamic Information Center that Hindus, Muslims, and people of all faiths in India can continue to live together in peace and harmony as they have been doing for many centuries, without the fear of reprisal violence against any community. It is also our hope that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice by the Indian government.

The Islamic Information Center, under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi, works to bring understanding among people of all faiths and background in an attempt to build bridges for the future to prevent hate crimes through education and tolerance. IIC also works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the holy religion of Islam.
