| | (New York, NY - October 17, 2009) IIC's New York Area Chapter, which encompasses the New York City and New Jersey region, is proud to announce an event entitled "Using Political Initiatives to Advance the Community" to take place this weekend.
The program will take place on November 1st, 2009 at the MFI Islamic Center in Somerset, NJ at 2:00pm and all are invited to attend. This will be an event for both men and women, and will feature lunch for the attendees!
This event will feature Imam (Maulana) Syed Naqvi, Chairman of IIC, Syed Haider Baharul Uloom, from IMAM, Dr. Tariq Jamil* of Swarthmore, and IIC's Executive Director, Rahat Husain.
The event will also contain a private Chapter Meeting for the New York Area Chapter and feature key discussions regarding IIC's function, vision, and goals in the New York and New Jersey area. All interested individuals are requested to attend!

Bios:
Sayed Haidar al-Hojat Bahar ul-Uloom was born in Najaf, Iraq. He comes from a scholarly family from both the father's and mother's sides. His grandfathers are the late Grand Ayatollah Sayed Mohammed Baqir al-Hojat Bahar al-Aloom who is buried in the shrine of Imam al-Rida (peace be upon him) and Ayatollah Sayed Mohammed Bahar al-Aloom who currently resides in Najaf, Iraq.
Professor al-Jamil is an expert on medieval Islamic social history and law, with a particular focus on Shi'ism, and sits on the IIC Board of Advisors. He has conducted research on Sunni-Shi'i relations and can address issues related to the academic study of Islam and the social history of Iraq, Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
