(WASHINGTON DC -- MAY 16, 2010) The Islamic Information Center this week mourns the loss of history's greatest personalities: Lady Fatima Zahra. Over the past few days, and for nearly 14 centuries, hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world, from North America, to South America, to Africa, to Europe, to Asia and even to Australia mourned passing of Lady Fatima Zahra, daughter of Prophet Muhammad.

On this occasion, IIC is proud to convey a message from Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir Najafi regarding Lady Fatima (May God Bless Her). To see this message please click here and visit our webpage (the message contains Arabic characters that cannot be displayed on email).

Mother's Day, to many Islamic countries and many Muslim communities around, is on the birthday of the most revered Muslim women in all history, Prophet Muhammad's daughter Lady Fatima Zahra (May God Bless Them). Lady Zahra was born in city of Mecca, in modern day Saudi Arabia, to Prophet Muhammad and his wife Khadija binte Khawlid. Lady Fatima is considered to be one of the most important and reputable of all women, not simply because she was the Prophet's daughter, but because she was a woman of great piety and incredible influence. She is held as an example for Muslim women to follow; Lady Fatima was devoted to Islam, her father, her husband, her children, her community - and was one of the earliest pioneers of women's rights in Islamic history. Many historical records indicate the Lady Fatima's great distinction.  Islamic texts also indicate that, just as she holds a divine position of leadership here on Earth, she will also hold a similar position in Heaven.

Lady Fatima was killed after suffering great physical trauma, and has been mourned for centuries by countless devout believers.  It is not entirely certain where she was buried, as she requested a private and secluded ceremony, but most believe it is either at the cemetery of Jannatul Baqi or in the Masjid-un-Nabi in Medina, also in modern day Saudi Arabia.

IIC has created the Lady Fatima Zahra Information Packet. This packet is developed to help people learn about Lady Fatima, even if they have little or no familiarity with Islam. Presented as a mini-magazine, this packet will help readers learn about Lady Fatima's life, her accomplishments, and her relationship with her father - Prophet Muhammad.
