The Islamic Information Center is alarmed by reports of a particular piece of legislation in Afghanistan that has been attributed to Shi'ite views. While the exact text of the legislation is not widely available, IIC wishes to clarify that whatever the text might say, in truth Islam is a religion that enjoins its believers to treat each other with mutual respect, honor, and dignity.

April 8, 2009 The Islamic Information Center is saddened by reports of suicide bombings against mosques in Pakistan, and condemns all perpetrators of this heinous violence. According to various sources, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device outside of a Shi'ite mosque in Chakwal, Pakistan, killing 26 people and injuring 40 others, officials said. IIC considers this type of violence to be playing in the favor of those enemies of Islam who would like to see discord among the people of Pakistan and all over the world.

The Islamic Information Center condemns the actions of the "Kingdom of Bahrain" in its unequal treatment of it's majority Shi'a population. Bahrain has a long history of oppression and human rights violations. In this report, even conservative news network FOX News charges that government allegations against detained Shias are fabricated.

January 4, 2009 The Islamic Information Center Announces a nationwide Congressional and Senatorial letter writing campaign. The purpose of this campaign is to urge elected officials in the United States to push for peace, humanitarian aid, and monitoring of the conflict by the UN to prevent further violence and destruction.

February 20, 2009 The Islamic Information Center condemns the killing of Aasiya Hassan last week. Ms. Hassan was killed by her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, the founder of a television network in New York called Bridges TV. Bridges TV was established to counter Muslim stereotypes, and this tragedy severely contradicts both the message of the network and the mission of Islam. Islam is a peace-loving religion that explicitly forbids the harming or destruction of innocent life.

February 20, 2009 IIC condemns the seizure of Palestinian West Bank land by Israel this week, in violation of international law. Hardliner Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu is a proponent of land seizure and does not believe in peace talks with the Palestinians. IIC believes that this sort of behavior is not conducive to a lasting peaceful solution, and instead believes Israel should strongly focus on peaceful existence with its neighbors, instead of violent agitation of the situation.

February 28, 2009 The Islamic Information Center has multiple openings for its Gemstone Summer Internship to take place at IIC's headquarters in Washington DC for the Summer of 2009. IIC's Washington DC office is located in the National Press Club, an international hub for news media. This will be an exciting opportunity to work towards a positive goal for the Muslim community, while gaining valuable experience with insider D.C. politics. Additionally, interns will be able to get a first hand look at Islam in the political arena, working with various media organizations to promote IIC efforts. Interns will be responsible for coordinating efforts with Embassy, Senate, Congressional, and other Federal offices and inviting them to IIC events, or supplying Islamic information resources to these offices.
