Unity of God (Arabic: Tawheed)Faith on no deities except the One God worthy of undivided love, adoration and worship (Allah) who has innumerous absolute Attributes that are inconceivable and incomparable by His creation.
Prophethood (Arabic: Nubua) Prophet hood is the position of high caliber given to about 124, 000 God selected personalities from Prophet Adam to Prophet Muhammad including Prophets Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. Their responsibilities as Divine Guides included making the people understand the mission of their life and the principles of religion acceptable to God. History shows that by their words and actions they taught the highest standards of morality in particular and the way of living in general.
God's Absolute Justice (Arabic: Al-Adl) The Absolute Justice is the Attribute of God that provides the standard for the distinction between virtue and evil, good and bad and right and wrong. The God's way of rewarding and punishing in this world and in the different stages of life after death including in heaven and hell brings about absolute peace based upon justice. Thus, justice is the pinnacle of all facets of Islamic teachings including social, economical, political etc.
Divine Leadership (Arabic: Immah) Imamah is a position that was given to some of the Prophets such as Prophet Abraham and Prophet Muhammad and to the 12 God-selected Successors of Prophet Muhammad to provide Divine Guidance and Leadership. The 12 Successors of Prophet Muhammad by their highly regarded sacrifices preserved and protected the authenticity of the teachings of all the prophets from Adam to Muhammad; specially the Qumran and its interpretation provided by Prophet Muhammad through his narrations. The 12th Imam Al-Mehdi is in occultation by God's order and by His Plan and his reappearance would coincide with the “Second Coming of Jesus”.
Hereafter (Arabic: Al Ma'ad) The concept of life after death has matured from the days of Pharaohs who had the notion that worldly possession would be need in the Hereafter. Islam and peoples of virtually all faith now believe in the accountability of deeds. According to Islamic teachings as there is moderation in every walk of life there would be moderation in the hereafter because accountability of deeds would be coupled with the intercession of Divine Guides.

IIC's Response "Divisive rhetoric is the real threat to nation's unity"
Divisive rhetoric is the real threat to nation's unity Cal Thomas seems to be quick to spread accusations, but his opinions are unsupported ("It's time to confront the threat from within," Opinion Commentary, May 21). Mr. Thomas recounted the government's warnings for Americans to be careful of "al-Qaida and other terrorists who wish to destroy us" and then suggested that all Muslims are included in the latter category, branding them "enemies."

The Islamic Information Center expresses its grave indignation and condemns, with the strongest possible terms, today's brutal and savage attack on the holy mosque in Samarra, Iraq, which holds the revered shrines of Imam Ali Al-Hadi and Imam Hasan Al-Askari, both being direct Holy progenies of the Holy Prophet of Islam (Peace be upon them).
The IIC is of the view that this barbaric and terrorist attack is another futile attempt to cause a civil war in Iraq. This sacrilegious and cruel attack can never be perpetrated by anyone who is a Muslim or a believer in the Almighty God, or even someone with the slightest moral or human concern; this is because the Holy Prophet and his Holy progeny have been advocates of peace, justice and human values.
This is a matter of great concern to all the peace loving individuals around the world as it is causing insecurity in Iraq and more problems for its broad-based legal government. Moreover, the claim of Coalition Forces to guarantee security of the holy sites is becoming more questionable and ambiguous.
Imam Syed Rafiq Naqvi the Chairman of the IIC calls upon the people of Iraq and the world at large to remain calm and not to be swayed by emotions. However at the same time he expects that everyone should express condemnation of this criminal act and protest by every peaceful and civilized means available.

This statement is in response to the capture of 7 individuals in Florida accused of plotting terrorist plots. The Islamic Information Center (IIC) strongly condemns any acts of or intentions of terrorism. It has recently been discovered however that these individuals were not actually Muslims but adherents to The Moorish Science Temple of America, whose teachings are not consistent with Islam. Therefore, we request media outlets to not refer to these individuals as Muslims.
Terrorism and hate crimes are explicitly condemned by Islam, and any individual committing such heinous acts is considered a deplorable individual in the eyes of Islam, whether they claim themselves to be Muslims or not.
The Islamic Information Center (IIC) under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi works to bring understanding among people of all faiths and background in an attempt to build bridges for the future to prevent hate crimes through education and tolerance. IIC also works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the holy religion of Islam.

Last week Ayatollah Syed Mortada Al Qazwini was brutally attacked in the city of Karbala by a group of terrorists. He survived the attack and recently was transported outside of Iraq for additional treatment. We ask individuals of all faiths to pray for his fast recovery. We also strongly urge the United States government to increase security for the revered scholars in Iraq. The high-ranking Shia clerics in Iraq have been one of the main reasons why the country has been able to establish a government, and their safeguard is vital for the safety and prosperity of the Iraqi people.
The individuals that perpetrated this act are targeting the preachers of peace in attempt to create chaos in the country. These great scholars of Islam have worked hard to establish peace and justice in the nation and have put their lives endanger for the betterment of the world. The Islamic Information Center requests that all individuals across the world recognize the efforts of these great Scholars and the work they are doing to make a more peaceful world.

This statement is in response to the series of seven explosions that took place on crowded commuter trains in Mumbai on Tuesday, July 11th. It is estimated that over 185 people died and 700 were wounded in this deadly attack. The Islamic Information Center can do nothing but express its condolences to those affected by this attack and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in this barbaric act of violence.
Islam places inherent value in each human life, as life is seen to be endowed to us by our Creator. Such acts of sporadic, unjustified violence against innocent civilians are unconditionally rejected by Islam and have no basis in authentic Islamic doctrine. It is the hope of the Islamic Information Center that Hindus, Muslims, and people of all faiths in India can continue to live together in peace and harmony as they have been doing for many centuries, without the fear of reprisal violence against any community. It is also our hope that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice by the Indian government.
The Islamic Information Center, under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi, works to bring understanding among people of all faiths and background in an attempt to build bridges for the future to prevent hate crimes through education and tolerance. IIC also works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the holy religion of Islam.

The Islamic Information Center strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Karachi, Pakistan which took the life of prominent Shi’a scholar Allama Hasan Turabi. This is not only an act of terrorism in Karachi, but an act against humanity. The bombing took place on Friday and was a premeditated target killing. Allama Hasan Turabi had been able to escape prior attempts on his life.
We strongly urge the government of Pakistan to increase security for prominent scholars as they have been the targets of countless terrorists attacks. Terrorism against innocent people is explicitly rejected and has no basis in Islamic doctrine. Terrorists who commit such heinous acts are seen as deplorable individuals.
Our prayers are with the family and friends of Allama Hasan Turabi and the people morning this great loss.

The Islamic Information Center voices its strong condemnation of the attack which took place at a Jewish Center in Seattle. One person was killed and five others were wounded when a man claiming to be a Muslim opened fire on the crowd. Such attacks on innocent people are not permissible in Islam and are clearly and explicitly condemned in Islam. The religion of Islam requires that as Muslims we support those individuals who undergo oppression regardless of what their ethnicity is. We offer our condolences to the families of the victims of this attack as well as the Seattle Jewish community.

This statement is in response to the recent dissemination of Anti-Islamic literature at a public high school in Raleigh , North Carolina . The parents of a 9th grade student allege that their child’s teacher invited a guest speaker who came in and handed out literature containing hateful remarks about Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
Anti-Islamic materials, including a pamphlet called "Jesus Not Muhammad," were handed out to the class by the guest speaker. The pamphlet called the Prophet Muhammad "A criminal," "Demon Possessed," and "Inspired by Satan." Another handout given to the students stated about Prophet Muhammad "His [Muhammad's] militant commands and pagan beliefs are contained in the Koran, the book of Islam. . .The Koran is the book of Islam that Muhammad claimed was revealed to him by Allah, the moon god of Arabs."
The Koran is the book of Islam which is a religion of peace, justice and equality. In numerous verses throughout the Koran, the high merits of Jesus and Mary are mentioned. Jesus is in fact one of the most revered figures in the religion of Islam. The derogatory comments made about Prophet Muhammad and Islam demonstrate the level of ignorance that this guest speaker and the teacher have, both of whom deserve disciplinary action.
The Islamic Information Center calls for an immediate apology to the student, and additionally the opportunity for the erroneous and hateful statements to be clarified to all the students in the class and school. It is important that the fertile young minds of this country not be polluted with such hateful and incorrect remarks.
IIC works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the religion of Islam. Under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi, IIC also works to bring understanding and trust among people of all faiths and cultures in an attempt to build bridges, build peace and prevent misunderstanding through education and tolerance.

This statement is in response to the recent floor statement delivered by Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts to Congress on January 25, 2007, in which he addresses the current situation in Iraq. The Islamic Information Center (IIC) respects Senator Kerry’s effort to examine the history of Islam and his attempt to understand the Iraq conflict in respect to the heritage of those parties involved, however, there were some historically inaccurate statements made by the Senator in need of correcting.
Senator Kerry referred to Imam Ali (peace be upon him) as the cousin and stepson and virtual son of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny). He also goes on to refer to Imam Husain (pbuh) as the grandson of [Imam] Ali (pbuh). Although, Imam Ali (pbuh) was the paternal cousin of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and son-in-law through marriage to his daughter Fatima (pbuh), he was not his stepson; and it remains unclear as to what Senator Kerry means by virtual son. Furthermore, Imam Husain (pbuh) was not the grandson of Imam Ali (pbuh) but his son, and grandson of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) himself.
These facts are extremely relevant and important when understanding the history of Islam and the various schools of thought. The chief members of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) household known as the Ahlul Bayt are key figures in Islam.
Senator Kerry goes on to say that it was Imam Ali (pbuh) who was beheaded in Karballah; this is incorrect. It is important that it be known that it was Imam Husain (pbuh) who was martyred in Karbala, and that Imam Ali (pbuh) had already passed decades before.
Senator John Kerry alludes to the 72 companions that were martyred with Imam Husain saying, when the grandson of [Imam] Ali was slaughtered in the desert along with 72 of his followers--72, a number that comes back to haunt us today. Again, it is unclear as to what the Senator means by suggesting that the number 72 haunts. In fact, the number 72 is an inspiration to all those around the world who love freedom, defending justice and standing up honorably against oppression. It was this number that inspired Mahatma Gandhi to begin with only 72 followers on his famous Salt March to Dandi because of the moral inspiration he received from Imam Husain (pbuh). Gandhi has said:
“I learnt from [Imam] Husain how to achieve victory while being oppressed.”
Finally, the notion that the suggested divide between the Shi’a and Sunni schools of thought in Islam is because of the events that took place in Karbala is not supported by historical facts. The Shi’a and Sunni of Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and many other countries across the Middle East have historically had strong peaceful relations. It was not until the recent interference and instigation of foreign influences in Iraq that a possible conflict between Shi]as and Sunnis has been exploited. This is an important fact that must be realized by policymakers and peacemakers alike.
IIC can provide numerous resources to validate the said statements.
IIC would like to invite Senator Kerry and all those interested in eliminating ignorance to attend the Imam Husain Day event at the Idara-e Jaferia in Burtonsville, Maryland on Saturday March 24, 2007 at 12pm. The interfaith panel of speakers features: Dr. Vernon Schubel, Professor of Religious Studies at Kenyon College; Imam Mohamed Magid, Executive Director and Imam of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society; and Dr. Reverend Elias D. Mallon, author of several articles on Christian-Muslim relations and Neighbors: Muslims in North America. For more information, please visit us on the web at www.IslamicInformationCenter .org.

This statement is in response to BBC news article posted on their website detailing the differences between Shias and Sunnis. The article states that Ali was killed in a power struggle over who should be caliph, leader of the Muslims. His sons also struggled to capture the caliphate - Hussein died on the battlefield opposing a subsequent caliph and Hassan is believed to have been poisoned.
The statement does not accurately represent the context of the circumstances resulting in the death of these heroic individuals. None of the three individuals were struggling for power of any sorts. It is true that the Ali believed that he should have been the first caliph, however it is a historical fact that he never fought for it. In fact, history shows the opposite in that he helped the Caliphs and after the third Caliph when he was selected to be the caliph, Ali initially refused the caliphate. These historical facts prove that Ali himself never struggled for power, nor was he killed in a power struggle.
Additionally, the same is true for his sons Hasan and Husain. History shows that the only matter of concern for Hasan was the peace and safety of the Muslims, which is why he relinquished the caliphate and signed a peace treaty such that there would be no further anguish from conflict. This relinquishment of power is a unique act of altruism and sacrifice that has seldom been seen throughout history. Finally, in reference to the statement of Husain being killed in a struggle to attain the Caliphate, his martyrdom is considered as one of the greatest struggles against oppression and tyranny in history. At numerous times Husain himself proclaimed that his struggle was not for the caliphate or for power but for the sake of promoting goodness and preventing evil. Additionally, the fact that Husain took only 72 individuals with him in his stand is proof that his struggle was not for power but a struggle to preserve values.

The Islamic Information Center mourns the one year anniversary of the heinous act of terrorism that took place in Samarra Iraq on February 22nd 2006. On this date the Al-Askariyan mosque, which had stood as a symbol of hope and justice, was destructed. The IIC adamantly condemns this act and all other acts of terrorism.
The Al-Askariyan mosque holds the tombs of several key historical figures who served as defenders of justice and freedom in their era. Imam Ali Naqi Al-Hadi and Imam Hasan Al-Askari, who are the descendants of Prophet Muhammad, are burried in this mosque and these two individuals made historic stands against tyranny and oppression just as their forefathers had.
This attack on the mosque was not just an attack on this shrine, but it was an attack against justice and freedom. The IIC calls on all faiths and congregations to join in the condemnation against this historical act of terrorism.

March 6, 2007 The Islamic Information Center (IIC) condemns this mornings terrorist attacks against pilgrims visiting Hilla, Iraq. IIC calls upon Iraqi government officials, security forces, and U.S. Armed Services in Iraq to diligently provide security to pilgrims and residents of Hilla. Iraqi citizens have the right to safety during religious gatherings and peaceful public protests. Over 100 Shia pilgrims, including women and children, were killed while commemorating the death of Imam Husain. Imam Husain was martyred in 680 C.E. for opposing a tyrannical regime and has become an international symbol for social
