August 26, 2010 The Islamic Information Center (IIC) is alarmed at the dramatic rise in hate crimes against Muslims, and general growing anti-Islam sentiment in the United States. Recently, there have been many high profile violent attacks against innocent American Muslims by other American citizens. The tone of conversation on various major news networks has contributed to such behavior, by encouraging fear and suspicion of innocent Muslims.

August 9, 2010 The Islamic Information Center (IIC) vehemently condemns the fatal attack on Christian charity workers in Afghanistan this weekend. Taliban fighters ambushed and killed a 10-member medical team, including six Americans, as they were returning from a trip to a remote northern area to provide eye care to rural villagers, their aid organization and local officials said this past Saturday.

This was the second annual conference with an action-oriented agenda, dedicated to establishing realistic plans and initiatives to be enacted in the year following the convention. On Tuesday May 25, 2010, members of the leadership of the Islamic Information Center had the opportunity to meet with the top ranking Shi’ite scholar in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Hassan al-Saffar (http://www.saffar.org), at IIC's national headquarters in the National Press Club in Washington DC. Sheikh Al-Saffar is the representative of Grand Ayatollah Syed Sistani in Saudi Arabia, and is the author of more than 100 books on Shiaism. Sheikh Al-Saffar is in the country to visit with the 5,000 Saudi Shia students pursuing higher education in the United States. IIC wishes Sheikh al Saffar well in his efforts to promote education in the burgeoning Shia community.

This episode is focussed on Shiaism, and attempts to explain the beliefs and practices of the Shia Muslim community. In this episode Ms. Shakir interviews IIC's Executive and Communications Directors, Rahat Husain and Hajar Hosseini, the respected scholar Sheikh Abdul Jaleel, and community leader Brother Salahudeen Kareem.
