The Islamic Information Center reiterates its position on the attack on Fort Hood last week, specifically that it was completely against the teachings of Islam and the actions of alleged shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, are in no way representative of the beliefs or actions of Muslims. Rather, the attack was both offensive and contrary to American Muslims, and Muslims around the world. To further explain how peace is an essential component of the Muslim belief, it is important to look at the holy text of Islam, the Holy Quran (sometimes spelt 'Koran').

IIC New Jersey/New York Chapter Holds Meeting at MFI E-mail

IIC at MFI

This past weekend, the Islamic Information Center held a NY/NJ Chapter Meeting at the Muslim Foundation, Inc Islamic Center in New Jersey. Several dozen individuals attended this meeting, which served as IIC’s introduction to the Northern NJ community, last year IIC introduced itself to the New York City community with an event titled “Beyond the Elections“, which was held at the famous New York University.

The Islamic Information Center hosted a Private Scholars Reception on Tuesday October 13, 2009 in honor of a visit by Ayatollah Husain Hakim, who was visiting from the Holy Seminaries of Najaf, where he plays an important role in managing the Islamic Seminary or hawzah.

The Olympics were created twice. Once by the ancient greeks, in an attempt to worship the Greek gods on Olympus with competitions of physical sport, and again in the 20th century in an effort to unite the world. Over time however, the Olympics have become a hotly contested battle for revenue for particular cities in various countries. This is most evident in the recent votes on where the 2016 Olympics would take place. There were many frontrunners, and none more hotly contested than Chicago, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and a few other cities in Europe and Asia.

Immigration reform? It’s about time. Immigrants, who are currently being held in detention centers across the country, may be moved to converted hotels and nursing homes, as part of the Obama administration’s plan to change the way the government holds people it seeks to deport. DHS Secretary, Janet Napolitano, stated that the initiative is in response to improving the current detention system, which is a result of the harsh policies set forth by the Bush administration.

Unless you’ve been hospitalized for the past 6 months or so, you must be aware of the healthcare reform debate going on in congress and around the nation. The “greatest country in the world” can’t seem to decide whether to insure everyone or not. The most significant news comes from the Senate floor where the public option amendments were shot down by the Senate Finance Committee.  This is as good a time as any for us all to take a step back and see what is best for this nation.
