IIC Remembers One Year Anniversary of Samarra Bombing E-mail
February 22, 2007

The Islamic Information Center mourns the one year anniversary of the heinous act of terrorism that took place in Samarra Iraq on February 22nd 2006. On this date the Al-Askariyan mosque, which had stood as a symbol of hope and justice, was destructed. The IIC adamantly condemns this act and all other acts of terrorism.

The Al-Askariyan mosque holds the tombs of several key historical figures who served as defenders of justice and freedom in their era. Imam Ali Naqi Al-Hadi and Imam Hasan Al-Askari, who are the descendants of Prophet Muhammad, are burried in this mosque and these two individuals made historic stands against tyranny and oppression just as their forefathers had.

This attack on the mosque was not just an attack on this shrine, but it was an attack against justice and freedom. The IIC calls on all faiths and congregations to join in the condemnation against this historical act of terrorism.

IIC works to correct any misinformation about matters relating to the religion of Islam. Under the guidance of Imam Syed Naqvi, IIC also works to bring understanding and trust among people of all faiths and cultures in an attempt to build bridges, build peace and prevent misunderstanding through education and tolerance.
