August 5, 2008 The Islamic Information Center marks the celebration of the “Wiladat” or Birthday celebration of Imam Husain today. Imam Husain was the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, through his daughter, Lady Fatima Zahra (Peace Be Upon Them). Hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world are commemorating this event by holding family gatherings, celebratory programs at mosques, and offering prayers to God. Pictured below is the mosque of Imam Husain, located in Karbala, in modern day Iraq.

The Islamic Information Center condemns the recent attacks made by female suicide bombers on pilgrims in Iraq. Three bombers targeted a group of Shiite pilgrims who were on their way to a holy shrine; the attacks killed at least 32 people and wounded about 102. Seven more pilgrims were gunned down one day earlier in a town close to Baghdad. Another female bomber detonated her explosives in the midst of a Kurdish political rally in Kirkuk, killing 38 and wounding 178 others.

July 15, 2008 The Islamic Information Center strongly condemns the atrocities being committed by Taliban and related Takfiri forces in Pakistan against Shia Muslims. According to news, nearly three dozen Shi’ite civilians are killed in daily attacks from the Taliban fighters. Such atrocities are a violation of human rights, and IIC believes that the Pakistani government should take immediate action to prevent further bloodshed.

July 8, 2008 The Islamic Information Center would like to express its concern over recent sectarian issues in the country of Egypt. The Egyptian Interior Ministry has asked Sunni Muslim leaders to educate national security officials on how to combat the rise of Shiite doctrine. This new policy is incredibly intolerant and will only incite sectarian hatred among the Islamic community in Egypt, and accordingly the Islamic Information Center condemns such efforts.
