For the past few months, Pakistan has been in a state of violence, as anti-terrorism efforts in nearby countries have pushed Taliban and Al Qaeda operatives to retreat into Pakistan. Using Pakistan as a base of operations, Taliban and other extremist groups have launched numerous attacks against US-Coalition forces and innocent Shi'ite Muslims in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Some of the more egregious attacks have been focused on the Parachinar area of Pakistan.

Imam Husain was the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, through his daughter, Lady Fatima Zahra (Peace Be Upon Them). Hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world are commemorating this event by holding family gatherings, celebratory programs at mosques, and offering prayers to God. Pictured below is the mosque of Imam Husain, located in Karbala, in modern day Iraq.
