IIC Chairman, Imam Syed Naqvi, to deliver Friday Prayers at the Capitol

Imam Syed Naqvi, Islamic Information Center Chairman of the Board of Directors, will be delivering Friday Prayers, or Jumah Salaat, as the Guest Lecturer, or Khateeb on May 16, 2008.

The service takes place every Friday and Imam Naqvi's lectures will be continued on a scheduled basis at the Capitol. Stay tuned for more details!
 
Shi'ite Scholar Court Scheduled Appearence Delayed Until Late May

Imam Safdar Razi, a prominent Shi'ite scholar was arrested in early April at his Plano, TX home. Imam Razi was legally seeking political asylum when he was suddenly arrested for "immigration charges" according to a spokesperson for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. No further explanation was offered. In response Muslim and Intrafaith leaders have started efforts to secure Shaikh Razi's release. Imam Razi's court appearence was last on April 29, 2008.

Presidential Candidate Obama Slams Fellow Candidate Clinton on War-like Remarks

Barack Obama criticized Hillary Clinton on Sunday for her threat to "totally obliterate" Iran if it attacked Israel.

"SEN. HILLARY CLINTON (D-NY): (From "Good Morning America") Well, the question was, "If Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel, what would our response be?" And I want the Iranians to know that if I'm the president, we will attack Iran. And I want them to understand that.  We would be able to totally obliterate them."

In response Senator Obama said "Well, it's not the language that we need right now, and I think it's language that's reflective of George Bush. We have had a foreign policy of bluster and saber-rattling and tough talk".
First Lady of Iraq Escapes Bomb Attack

The wife of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani was able to escape bomb attack on Sunday in Baghdad, Iraq, however four of her bodyguards were seriously wounded.
Islamic Prayers Echo through Streets of Iceland

A sound sculpture by art student Thorarinn Jonsson in the form of a recording of Islamic prayers will sound from the balcony of the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavík, Iceland for the next few days.

According to Jonsson, the main motive behind his work is to provide a counterbalance to the negative image of Islam in the Western world, Morgunbladid reports.

"The calls of prayer in the Middle East are sung in a very beautiful and lyrical way," Jonsson said. The recording will be played five times a day for one week (beginning last week) for about one minute at a time.
Pope Discusses Muslim Relations with Other Christian Denominations

Pope Benedict met with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, to discuss Christian-Muslim Relations. The Archbishop had suggested that Muslims be allowed to follow Islamic law in regards to divorces and inheritance in England, spurring hateful and biased remarks against him.
Pentagon's Top Officer Advises Against War with Iran

The Pentagon's top officer, Admiral Michael Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told Israeli TV that due to US military involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan, it would be difficult to mount any attack on Iran, and altogether he prefers to avoid another regional war. Ironically, the topmost military commander in the United States is advocating peace while civilian elected officials have made public comments about attacking Iran perhaps pre-emptively.
