IIC Round Tables Return for 2008
| The Islamic Information Center (IIC) is proud to announce that it will be hosting another session this month, on June 29, 2008. For those new to the program, the Round Table discussions are aimed at facilitating communication between DC Area Muslim Interns & Young Professionals with Islamic groups who can provide resources and benefit from their professional association.
The IIC's mission is to be a resource of accurate and credible information concerning Islam, and to supply the media and governmental agencies with this material. Our organization hopes to foster positive perception of our religion, and to increase awareness on issues concerning Muslims today.
The goal of the DC Area Muslim Round Table is to create a medium where young professionals can aid the cause of Islam and network with other interested individuals like themselves. For more information on this event, please contact

| IIC Releases Information Packet about Lady Fatima Zahra (Peace Be Upon Her) | IIC is also proud to announce the release of the Lady Fatima Zahra Information Packet. This packet is developed to help people learn about Lady Fatima, even if they have little or no familiarity with Islam.
Presented as a mini-magazine, this packet will help readers learn about Lady Fatima's life, her accomplishments, and her relationship with her father - Prophet Muhammad.

At the president's departure an Israeli police officer committed suicide, sparking fear of an assassination attempt. The Department of Defense reports at least 4, 105 casualties of the Iraq war as of June 24, 2008. Operation Iraqi Freedom began in March 2003. Western nations, in an attempt to force Iran to abide by a nuclear agreement, has declared their intention to withhold aid to Iran's anti-drug movement. Iran has been doing its best to stymie drug trafficking efforts made by Afghanistan in an endeavor to stop the trade of opium. Antonio Maria Cost, director of the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime said a "heroin tsunami" could wash over Europe if Iran's drug prohibition is weakened.

After an Afghan-American convoy was ambushed by the Taliban, security forces retaliated by killing one of the Taliban's members. During the firing a civilian child and father were killed. Amnesty International has criticized the United States and other governments for sending suspected terrorists to Tunisia, where reports of torture have been documented. Arbitrary arrests, detention, and torture are a violation of Tunisia's law.

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama called two Muslim women, Shimaa Abdelfadeel and Hebba Aref, to personally apologize for the gross lack of judgment made by his campaign on June 16. The two women were told they could not sit behind the candidate at the risk of being photographed with their hijab.
