Senior Lebanese Scholar, Ayatollah Fadlallah, Rejects Claims of Shia Sunni Discord

In a recent interview, Ayatollah Fadlallah, one of Lebanon's chief theologians, stated that any notions of strife between Shi'ites and Sunnis was untrue. Most Muslims value unity, and simply need some sort of motivation to work together said Fadlallah, suggesting a large scale collaborative project. He admitted that there were elements in the Arab community who wanted to promote discord, but that they were the extreme minority and did not represent Islamic views. Yale University began a series of seminars and talks aimed to uniting the world populations of Christians and Muslims. Such efforts resulted from a letter sent to Christians from more than a hundred Muslim leaders last year urging unity on the basis of God. Accordingly, the Christian response was quite positive, and unity efforts began in earnest. According to the Christian Science Monitor "The 150 leaders participating include Evangelical and mainline Protestants (i.e., president of the National Association of Evangelicals), Muslims from several continents (Sunni, Sufi, and Shiite, including ayatollahs from Iran), and a few Jewish leaders." | Iraqi Muslims Commemorate Prophet Muhammad's Great Grandson, Imam Musa Kadhim (AS) despite string of attacks

Despite recent suicide attacks against Shi'ite Muslims, Iraqis came out in droves to celebrate the birth of one of the successors to Prophet Muhammad, namely one of his great grandchildren Imam Musa al-Kadhim. According to reports, more than one million worshippers attended these celebrations, and thousands of police had been deployed to help maintain order and organization. | Iraqis Banned, then Reinstated into Beijing Olympics

Last week, the International Olympic Committee announced that Iraq would be banned from this years Olympics. The reasons stated that Iraq had been banned because of "political interference" into Iraq's Olympic council. The Iraqi government had removed certain members of the council known to be members of Saddam's Baathist party. After a recent string of terror attacks across India, a number of Muslim newspapers have reported that the Muslims are overwhelmingly against terrorism, and denounced any individuals who perpetrate such acts as "not true Muslims". Taking a strong line against terrorists, headlines such as "Those who harm innocents are enemies of Islam" adorned major Muslim media outlets in India. India has nearly two hundred million Muslims, more than the entire combined populations of Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq. In preparation for the influx of Muslim visitors to the 2008 Olympics, the Beijing International Media Center has opened "Halal" restaurants, which cater to Muslim eating requirements. Additionally a prayer room has been opened for guests. At this point, it appears that only registered guests are able to fully enjoy these benefits, and reporters enjoy additional discounts.
