Sunni political bloc ends boycott of Shiite government

After Iraqi Parliament approved the placement of six Sunni officials to the Cabinet the Accordance Front, Iraq's Sunni political party, ended their boycott of the Shiite-run government. The posts of deputy prime minister and ministers of communications, foreign affairs, women's affairs, higher education, and culture have been opened up to Sunnis. High Muslim birth rate in Russia keeps Islam growing

UN asked to adopt World Conference resolutions

Director general of Saudi's Foreign Ministry, Muhammad bin Ahmed Tayeb, has asked the United Nations to adopt resolutions created by the World Conference on Dialogue. The conference, which was extremely successful, was held in Madrid, and was called by King Abdullah to facilitate peaceful interfaith communication. For more information, please click here.
Israeli soldier shoots Palestinian with rubber bullet, caught on tape

In the fringes of a West Bank village called Naalin many skirmishes between Israeli military and Palestinian protestors have taken place. The latest attack, reported by Israeli human rights group B'Tselem, involved an Israeli soldier shooting a bound and blindfolded Palestinian man in the foot at close range with a rubber bullet. Footage of the incident was recorded by a Palestinian girl and is being investigated by the Israeli military. For more information, please click here.
Iraq's PM to meet with Pope

July 20, 2008    

Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki will be visiting Europe to meet with officials in Italy and Germany, and eventually hold talks with Catholic Pope Benedict. It is Maliki's wish "to enhance Iraq's legitimacy and use the improved security to kick start diplomatic and economic ties," said Baghdad University faculty member, Hashim Hassan. Moderate Scholars unite to diminish Terrorist Taliban

A conference was held in Karachi, Pakistan in early July to discuss the recent violent attacks against Shiite Muslims in many towns including Parachinar. The conference members called upon the Pakistani government to eliminate the thread of the Taliban and end violence against Shiite Muslims.
Najaf's new airport gives hope for tourist surge

The Shiite holy city of Najaf, Iraq has about 9 million visiting pilgrims arrive annually, and with the new airport planners hope there will be an increase by about 10 percent. McCain fellow POW: Muslims 'going to kill us'

Colonel Bud Day, one of John McCain's avid supporters and fellow prisoners of war recently said, " The Muslims have said either we kneel or they're going to kill us."  A McCain campaign spokesperson said that Day meant to say "Islamic extremists" but he instead made the mistake of generalizing a population of 2.1 billion people as terrorists. The rhetoric of synonymizing Muslim or Islam with violent terrorism and extremist values has become pervasive worldwide, and is highly damaging to the reputation of what is meant to be a religion of peace.
