IIC Remembers Imam Ali E-mail
IIC Remembers Imam Ali

(WASHINGTON DC - September 19, 2008)
The Islamic Information Center remembers the loss of Imam Ali, the successor to the Holy Prophet, who was killed in Ramadhan in the year 661 C.E. This event was tragic to the entire Muslim community at the time, and is still a time of remembrance and sorrow today. Imam Ali was viciously attacked during the Islamic morning prayer, Fajr, and succumbed to both poison and other injuries nearly three days later. Imam Ali was an important leader in Islamic history, preaching values of peace, honor, and working to help the poor and downtrodden.

He was considered a champion of government accountability, and according to historians, was one of the most successful and virtuous leaders in modern history. Imam Ali's merits have been noted by various United Nations statements, world leaders, and civil rights movements. According to various polls, the names "Muhammad" and "Ali" are amongst the top 5 most common names in the world.

To learn more about Imam Ali, please take a moment to read the Imam Ali Information Packet, created by the Islamic Information Center to educate the American community about one of history's greatest heroes.
