Group Bypasses Dialogue with Paid Release of Anti-Islam Propaganda

(WASHINGTON DC - September 16, 2008) IIC this week, voices its concern over the inflammatory newspaper insert delivered to key electoral localities by the little-known Clarion Fund.  The group, a non-profit, refuses to name its donors.  The Fund is spending millions of dollars to distribute 28 million copies of the emotionally laden anti-Muslim DVD, "Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West," to 70 newspapers in Presidential election swing states.  The contents of this DVD are false, encourage hatred, and serve no other purpose than to encourage Islamophobia, the irrational fear and hatred of peaceful Muslims and Islam.

The politically motivated "Obsession" bypasses public discourse and research, by attempting to frighten its viewers in to believing derogatory stereotypes about Islam.  The bias, malintent, and attacks are obvious, as vociferous anti-Muslim "Islamophobes" like Daniel Pipes, an academic in severe disrepute, and other unusual anti-Islam activists, appear in the film.  A prominent professor of history, specializing in the history of the West and the Muslim world, Dr. Juan Cole, notes in response to Pipes previous statements, "...the best way to conduct human affairs is the maximization of information, and so I hope Pipes and his cohort will also have their arguments publicly scrutinized, as well."

IIC welcomes the public debate on all issues of concern to US citizens with scholarly, intellectual, and practical approaches.
