May 1, 2011 Moments ago, President Obama announced on live television that Osama Bin Laden has been killed by US military forces with cooperation from the Pakistani government. The Islamic Information Center commends this action, and believes that Osama Bin Laden was one of the greatest enemies of Islam, if not the entire world. President Obama said “The US is not, and never will be, at war with Islam. Bin Laden was not a leader of Muslims, [he] was a mass murderer of Muslims ... Indeed he killed scores of Muslims in many countries, including our own.” Pakistani President Zardari said “This is a good and historic day.” After reports of repeated initial denials, Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Bin Laden was also responsible for numerous crimes throughout the Middle East, including an alliance with the Taliban, wherein he assisted in the sectarian mass murder of more than six thousand Shi’ite Hazaras in Afghanistan by sending hundreds of troops. Further, he was rumored to be involved in numerous terrorist attacks against innocent Pakistani civilians for several years.

January 8, 2011 The Islamic Information Center condemns the viscous attack on the lives of US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Federal Court Judge John Rolls, and others that took place today. Six people were killed and 12 others wounded in a shooting outside a Tucson, Arizona, grocery store where the congresswoman was holding a constituent meeting, police said. President Obama has announced that Judge Rolls has died as a result of the injuries he sustained. Congresswoman Giffords is expected to survive. Associated Press reports that the shooter is in custody, and has been identified by people familiar with the investigation as Jared Loughner, 22. Pima County Sheriff's officials said he used a pistol to carry out the shooting spree. U.S. officials who provided his name to the AP spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release it publicly. The attack appears to be unrelated to Islam and Muslims, although police are still investigating the reason for the attack, or whether it will be designated a terrorist act.

January 29, 2011 The Islamic Information Center joins MPAC and CAIR in calling for Americans to express concerns to elected officials regarding the violent crackdown by Egyptian authorities against peaceful protestors. Egypt was wracked by demonstrations on Tuesday’s “Day of Rage,” called for by the April 6 committee of youth activists on social media last week. The protesters were hoping to benefit from the momentum for reform in the region created by the Tunisian revolution, which forced the Ben Ali regime from power nearly two weeks ago.

January 29, 2011 Police arrested a Californian man earlier this week on suspicion of attempting a terrorist act at one of America's largest mosques, the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, MI. Roger Stockham, 63, was found Monday in the parking lot of the Islamic Center of America, with explosive materials in his car, after police were tipped off to his behavior by a fellow employee. He was arraigned Wednesday on one count of a false report or threat of terrorism, a felony carrying a 20-year sentence, and one count of possession of bombs with unlawful intent, a felony carrying a 15-year sentence, for possession of Class C fireworks. They found the suspect inside his car outside the Islamic Center with M-80s -- large firecrackers -- and other explosives in his trunk, according to CAIR. At the time, about hundreds of worshipers were gathered inside the mosque for a funeral.

February 17, 2011 The Islamic Information Center is strongly concerned about the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Bahrain. Inspired by the peaceful revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, protestors have taken to the streets of Bahrain to request a constitutional democracy. In response, the government of Bahrain has viciously attacked its own people in order to maintain its grip on power. Hundreds of riot police surrounded the nation’s symbolic center, Pearl Square, in the early morning Thursday, raining tear gas and percussion grenades on thousands of demonstrators who had poured into the square all day Wednesday to challenge the country’s absolute monarchy.

Inspired by the peaceful revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt, protestors have taken to the streets of Bahrain to demand universal human rights, including representation in their governments, and an end to oppressive tactics. December 21, 2010 The Islamic Information Center is beginning a petition drive to advocate on behalf of H.R. 847, a piece of proposed legislation to help emergency first responders, such as police and firefighters, who became ill after the 9/11 attacks. IIC stands in permanent opposition to terrorism, and believes the Muslim community in the United States can demonstrate their opposition to terrorism with this petition. H.R. 847 has been commonly referred to as the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010. It was named after James Zadroga, a New York City police officer who died in 2006 of respiratory disease attributed to toxins he inhaled while working for the better part of a year cleaning up Ground Zero after 9/11. Zadroga sacrificed his life, unwittingly, to search through the rubble for the victims of those infamous terrorist attacks and to bring closure to their families. IIC will present the petition and the signatures to government officials, and in doing so will demonstrate the involvement of Muslims in the United States diaspora. By signing this petition, community members will show that they oppose terrorism and want to make a difference. However, the petition must be signed by January 1st, 2011 - as the 112th Congress opens its first session by January 3, 2011.

December 20, 2010 The Islamic Information Center protests the actions of the Malaysian government that took place this weekend, wherein 200 innocent Shia Muslims were arrested for belonging to a so called "banned" sect, and participating in mourning ceremonies related to the death of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Husain ibn Ali (May God Bless them). Furthermore, the Islamic Information Center will be requesting a formal meeting with the Malaysian Ambassador to the United States regarding this issues. The Islamic Information Center advocates on behalf of humanitarian rights in the United States and around the world, and the actions of the Malaysian government are deeply troubling in this regard.

October 25, 2010 This week Europol released an annual study of terrorism; the results do not support claims that "(nearly) all Muslims are terrorists". Europol (portmanteau of European Police Office) is the European Union's criminal intelligence agency. According to a report from Loonwatch.com's Mr. Danios, various news commentators and others expressing Islamophobia have been popularizing the claim that “not all Muslims are terrorists, but (nearly) all terrorists are Muslims.” Despite this idea becoming axiomatic in some circles, it is quite simply not factual.

August 27, 2010 The Islamic Information Center strongly condemns the inflammatory remarks made today by New York's Governor Paterson, and calls for him to issue an apology. “This group who has put this mosque together, they are known as the Sufi Muslims. This is not like the Shiites,” Governor Paterson told CBS. “They’re almost like a hybrid, almost westernized. They are not really what I would classify in the sort of mainland Muslim practice.” Shia (sometimes referred to as 'Shiite') Muslims are peaceful, hardworking residents of New York, and law-abiding citizens of the United States. Governor Patterson builds no good will by implying that the followers of one branch of Islam are superior or inferior to another branch of Islam.
Furthermore, it is reckless for Governor Paterson to make the implication that Shia Muslims are in any way lesser or worse than Sufi Muslims, the general Muslim population, or other Americans in general. In light of the recent assault on a New York City taxi cab driver on the basis of being a Muslim and the desecration of a mosque in Queens, it is irresponsible for the leader of the state of New York to contribute such misguided remarks against his own constituents.
