| Saudi Arabia Exempted From Legal Action | August 15, 2008
A U.S court has ruled that the Government of Saudi Arabia as well as several charities connected to Al-Qaeda funding are to be given immunity from legal proceedings. Family members of 9/11 victims wish to hold the government and various groups involved with Al-Qaeda responsible for the atrocious attack. However, by granting immunity to the government of Saudi Arabia, which is known to have ties to terrorist organizations, has made it impossible to bring closure to these families. | | Dubai To Begin Promoting Islam | August 15, 2008
The Dubai Islamic Affairs Committee has started a campaign to promote Islam in the city. They will be holding a contest for people of all faiths to submit an essay displaying the merciful and charitable nature of the Prophet of Islam. The Committee hopes that by showcasing the true teachings of Islam, the media biases that have shown Islam as a religion of violence and hatred will be overcome. For more click here.
| | Radio Host Drops CAIR Lawsuit | August 14, 2008
Conservative radio show host, Michael Savage, has dropped his lawsuit against CAIR. The radio host made negative comments about Islam and the Quran on air, which led to a public uproar as well as a CAIR campaign leading to the pulling out of advertisers. Savage claimed that CAIR is a terrorist organization and needed to be stopped, however his lack of a legitimate case, and the positive standing of CAIR ensured that the lawsuit was immediately seen as baseless. | | Danish Cartoonist To Stand Trial | August 15, 2008
The Danish cartoonist that illustrated the pictures of Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist is ready to voluntarily stand trial in Jordanian court. He claims that he was trying to show how terrorism has taken Islam hostage, and that he does not believe Islam is a religion of violence and hatred. However, the Jordanian government says that because his cartoons sparked so much religious violence, he needs to be held accountable. For more, click here. | | Muslims In China | August 15, 2008
According to the Imam of a Beijing masjid, Muslims in China are allowed to worship without any hindrance from the government. Though China is an atheist nation, it has allowed religious groups to practice within government limits. The Muslim population of China is estimated to be nearly 20 million, though not many people attend the local masjid. The Imam of the Beijing masjid hoped more people would come to Friday prayers because of the Olympics, but he says that has not happened. For more please click here.
| | Muslim Protests In Kashmir | August 15, 2008
Indian Independence day celebrations in Kashmir brought an eruption of protests by Muslims in the disputed territory. The majority of Muslim Kashmiri's want a state separate from India, because of what they see as preferential treatment of Hindus. The Independence Day protests were a response to a recent government ruling allotting land for the expansion of a Hindu temple, while such requests by Muslim groups have gone unnoticed. The humanitarian crisis in Pakistan continues, with rising attacks in Parachinar. Since IIC's initial coverage of the story, the NY Times published a detailed article about the issue, President Bush demanded action from the Pakistani Prime Minister, and numerous grassroot campaigns began to help resolve the attacks against innocent civilians in Pakistan.

The trend of women only beaches in Egypt is growing as nearly 80% of the female population wears the Islamic veil. The women at the beaches are free to dress and relax without the prying eyes of men, and can enjoy themselves in an Islamically proper environment. | | Leaders Condemn Tripoli Blasts | August 15, 2008
Various world and local leaders are condemning the attacks carried out in a busy Tripoli street. The bombings are responsible for 14 deaths, and are being treated as terrorist attacks to destabilize the Lebanese army. The initiatives taken by the Lebanese government to curb terrorist activities is being seen as the reason for the blasts. The radical Sunni group Fatah Al-Islam is the main suspect in the government investigation. For more, click here.
